Mendes, a Canadian native, began to gain popularity in 2013 when he started posting covers of popular songs on Vine. In January of 2014 he was signed to Island Records. His first single was "Life of the Party" and debuted in June 2014 and made him the youngest artist to have a song debuting in the top 25 on the Billboard 100. Before being signed to Island Records Mendes toured with MAGCON alongside other social media sensations Nash Grier, Jack and Jack and Carter Reynolds.
